The Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of the Abandoned, or OLA Church, in Marikina City started as a small visita in 1690 under the Augustinians, growing into a full parish by 1791 with its stone church finished in 1795. The church is dedicated to Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados, whose image arrived from Spain in 1690 and is said to have survived floods and wars, earning it a reputation for miracles.
Declared a diocesan shrine in 2007, the church sits near the Marikina River and has a beautiful old facade that’s held up through the centuries. Its feast day is every May 12, and it’s also known for a special devotion to St. Anthony of Padua, which is celebrated every June 13.
