The Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, also known as the Manila Cathedral, is located in Intramuros, Manila, and was first established in 1571 by the Spanish colonizers, making it the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila. Destroyed multiple times by earthquakes, fires, and wars, the current neo-Romanesque structure was completed in 1958 and elevated to a minor basilica in 1981 by Pope John Paul II.
This iconic church, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, features a grand facade with bronze doors depicting scenes from Manila’s history, stained-glass windows, and a pipe organ. The church is also a major venue for religious ceremonies, including papal visits, and the annual feast day on December 8.
